UMD President Pines' Response to the Recent Supreme Court Decision on Affirmative Action
"At a time when students who have historically faced the greatest barriers to accessing higher education are being told that the admission process may become more challenging than ever, we have a clear, loud and true message: we will remain a national leader by encouraging and supporting students of all backgrounds as they apply, enroll and graduate from the University of Maryland. The educational value of campus diversity is one we will not sacrifice."
The University of Maryland (UMD) will waive the application fee for students who meet certain criteria at the time of their application. This includes the StandOut Admissions Network and Common App fee waiver criteria. Requests through the StandOut Admissions Network will process in 1 to 3 business days and those through Common App will process in 7 to 10 business days.
Additionally, UMD waives the application fee for high school seniors who are National Achievement, National African American, National Hispanic, National Indigenous or National Merit finalists or semifinalists.
Fee waivers can also be requested for extenuating circumstances in two ways:
Provide a copy of an official fee waiver form from the College Board, American College Testing program, College Bound and National Association for College Admission Counseling.
Submit an official letter from the high school guidance counselor documenting the reason and need for the fee to be waived. We will consider these requests on an individual basis, but we cannot guarantee that they will be accepted.
To submit a request to have your application fee waived, please email the required documentation to ApplyMaryland@umd.eduprior to submitting your application.
