Application Deadlines

Students have different deadlines based on their applicant type and desired semester of admission. Be sure to review our application deadlines to determine when you should apply and when you can expect to receive a decision.

Use the tables below to determine when you should apply to the University of Maryland based on your student classification and desired semester of entry. Students who are applying for admission to Shady Grove or for re-enrollment should follow the admission processes outlined on those pages.

Applications are considered complete when the online application and all required documents have been received. All materials must be postmarked by the appropriate deadline for consideration and it is the applicant’s responsibility to confirm receipt of documents through MyCoalition. Please note that it may take up to 5 business days after submitting your application for you to be able to view the status of your application and supporting documents online.

*Indicates that the date is for the prior year. For example, U.S. Freshman applying for Fall 2019 priority admission must apply by Nov. 1, 2018.

Notes:

1. Applicants are strongly encouraged to apply by the priority deadline where applicable. Freshmen who apply by the priority deadline for the fall semester will receive best consideration for admission to the university, merit-based scholarships and invitations to special programs. Transfer students who apply by the priority deadline for the fall or spring semesters will receive best consideration for admission to the university and consideration for merit-based scholarships. This is not an early-decision program; you will have until the date listed in the "Enrollment Confirmation Deadline" column to confirm your enrollment.

2. Applications received after the regular deadline will be considered on a rolling, space-available basis.

3. Freshman students who apply for the fall semester are automatically considered for spring admission.

4. Students with non-U.S. academic records and/or are non-U.S. citizens or non-permanent U.S. residents (those who hold or intend to seek an F-1 Student or J-1 Exchange Visitor visa to study in the United States) should apply as international students and are encouraged to review the International Applicant Requirements. All other students should follow the regular application instructions for freshman or transfer admission.
