The Office of Undergraduate Admissions manages the admissions process for internal transfers applying to the following Limited Enrollment Programs (LEP):
Students interested in applying for Criminology and Criminal Justice, Government and Politics, or Psychology will do so directly with the associated department and the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences, which can be done once the last required gateway course is completed. Learn more >>
The LEP application is made available following the add/drop deadline of each semester. All applicants are strongly encouraged to review their program's gateway criteria prior to completing the application.
Internal transfer students should complete the application either during the semester in which they complete the required gateway courses or at the end of the semester. This timeline is dependent upon the application deadline for the student's preferred major. When previewing the application prior to submission, you will see all portions of the online application form, including those not relevant to the program for which you are applying. This is to be expected and will not impact your application provided you completed the sections relevant to your desired LEP major.

Please note: Students applying for the fall semester are able to complete a gateway requirement course during the summer, at either UMD or another institution. In order to be considered, courses must be taken during UMD's Summer 1 Session. If the course is taken at another institution, it must be completed by the end of UMD's Summer 1 Session. Students applying to change their major for the spring semester are not able to complete gateway courses during the winter term.
Any student interested in applying to the Robert H. Smith School of Business must complete all coursework by the conclusion of the fall or spring semester. Coursework completed during the summer term will not be reviewed as a part of the LEP admission process.
Only business school applicants may submit letters of recommendation; no more than three letters will be accepted. Letters of recommendation may be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org or brought to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions in the Mitchell Building.
If you have technical problems using the application system, please contact email@example.com. If you have questions about the application requirements or admission process, you may contact the Limited Enrollment Programs office at firstname.lastname@example.org.
