As you review your next steps and confirm your enrollment, you can find answers to commonly asked questions within our Admission Decision FAQs. We know you have a lot to consider, but the information below will help you take the steps you need to join the UMD family.
You have likely landed on this page from your admission letter. Be sure to keep it handy. It includes important information about your semester of admission, major, advising college and residency status (for tuition purposes). Please be sure to review your residency classification and contact us promptly if you believe you have been classified incorrectly. If you have not yet seen your letter, log in to your StandOut Admissions Network account, proceed to the University of Maryland section on the Colleges list and select View Decision Letter.
Please let us know your answer to this offer of admission by completing the Enrollment Confirmation Form. The Enrollment Confirmation Form will be sent to you by your UMD at USG program via email within one to two weeks after receiving an admission decision. There is no enrollment deposit to confirm your enrollment to UMD at USG. If admitted to both UMD at College Park and USG, you can only confirm enrollment to one location.
Newly admitted students will be able to activate their Directory ID at identity.umd.edu approximately one business day after the date of their admission decision.
After activating your Directory ID, you will also need to set up Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA). Both your Directory ID and the MFA will be necessary to complete your Housing and Dining Agreement (required of all students living in on-campus residence halls) as well as to access other UMD systems such as student financial aid, registration for orientation and courses, and most other student services. If you need any assistance please contact the Division of Information Technology (DIT).
It may take up to two business days for your Directory ID to become effective. Activating your Directory ID does not require confirming your enrollment at UMD. However, once your Directory ID has been activated, a TERPmail account will automatically be created for you. You will receive an email from DIT with instructions on setting up a password for your account.
In the enrollment confirmation form received from your UMD at USG program, you will select your orientation date and receive more details from your program about preparing for your selected orientation.
It is our expectation that you maintain your current level of academic performance. In addition, the university requires you to update the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, should you have disciplinary action taken against you between the time you submitted your application and the start of classes. If this is the case, please email ApplyMaryland@umd.edu with the subject line "Disciplinary Update". Any significant changes in either of the above could result in the reassessment of your admission decision.
International students will need to work with the International Students & Scholar Services (ISSS) office in order to receive an I-20 Form and complete additional items for new international students. International students must confirm their enrollment at UMD before their student visa application process can begin.
In addition to new student orientation, international students may be required to attend the International Student Orientation offered by ISSS.
Credits you've earned through courses at another institution or through standard exams (such as AP, IB, A/AS Level and CLEP exams) may count toward your UMD degree. However, these scores must be submitted to us directly by the testing agency. About 15 business days after you have been admitted, you can review your unofficial transcript (Directory ID required) and which of your credits will transfer.
Please also submit your most recent transcripts as soon as your grades are posted so our Transfer Credit Services department may evaluate any additional transferable credits. Transcripts must be official copies and can be sent electronically to UMD or mailed to the address at the bottom of this page.
From merit scholarships and need-based aid to understanding your payment options, learn how you can finance your education. Additionally, various private scholarships are available for students enrolled in programs at USG.
We are committed to providing you with helpful information and resources that can assist in making a UMD education affordable for you and your family. To help you get started, we recommend reviewing the estimated cost of attendance (mandatory fees are different for USG students). Additionally, as an admitted student, you now have the ability to find and apply for external scholarships through our scholarship matching tool, Scholarship Universe.
In order to keep our campus healthy and safe, we require that all incoming students submit immunization information prior to arrival on campus. Please also review our COVID-19 vaccination requirements to ensure you are in compliance.
In addition, domestic undergraduate students must attest they have health insurance or enroll in the school-sponsored plan by September 15 for the fall semester or February 15 for the spring semester. The insurance attestation or enrollment can occur after you have registered for classes. International students will automatically be enrolled in the school-sponsored plan.

The University of Maryland has launched a new investment in need-based financial aid, the Terrapin Commitment program, which will provide up to $20 million annually for students from the state of Maryland.
The goal of the Terrapin Commitment program is to reduce the gap between a student’s total financial aid package and the cost of an education. The program will begin in January 2023 and ensures that tuition and fees are fully covered for Pell eligible, in-state students, who are enrolled full time and have unmet financial need.
