College Park and D.C.

Explore the community our Terps call home! Whatever your hobbies and interests, there is something for everyone in our neighborhood.

The University of Maryland is located in College Park, MD, a growing and vibrant college town offering a great variety of activities and entertainment.  In addition to a popular hiking and biking trail that runs right through campus, College Park and neighboring communities such as Hyattsville and Riverdale Park offer just about every amenity you can imagine including an Amazon Hub Locker+ and a TargetExpress, which are directly next to campus, a great picnicking spot at nearby Lake Artemesia, as well as shopping malls, movie theaters, a variety of grocery stores, including a Whole Foods.

Through the Greater College Park initiative, our community is actively working to create links between our dynamic academic buildings, a public-private research hub and the vibrant downtown area. The Discovery District, a key part of this initiative, features unique food, art and entertainment experiences.

Just a metro ride away, you can easily soak up Washington D.C.'s sights, culture and nightlife. Check out concerts from global superstars, catch a game featuring one of D.C.’s five major professional sports teams, explore the historic Georgetown and U Street neighborhoods, or just stroll down the National Mall to visit one of the 11 free Smithsonian Museums and art galleries. Speaking of, the University of Maryland and The Phillips Collection have a unique partnership aimed to transform scholarship, research and innovation in the arts. You’re also only a half-hour MARC train ride from Baltimore and Annapolis, where you can walk along the water and, of course, try our famous Maryland blue crabs.

ESTIMATED COST OF ATTENDANCE:

State of Maryland Residents   Non-Maryland Residents

The University of Maryland has launched a new investment in need-based financial aid, the Terrapin Commitment program, which will provide up to $20 million annually for students from the state of Maryland.

The goal of the Terrapin Commitment program is to reduce the gap between a student’s total financial aid package and the cost of an education. The program will begin in January 2023 and ensures that tuition and fees are fully covered for Pell eligible, in-state students, who are enrolled full time and have unmet financial need. More details can be found on the Office of Student Financial Aid's website.
